» The Plugin program provides incubation support for hardware & system startups with a focus on moving from proof of concept to final product that can be taken to market.Proof-of-concept or Minimum Viable Product must be ready.

» The startups would have the option of choosing from a range of ingredient products & technologies that are available from Intel under this incubation program.

» Promoters of hardware systems-based startups, including but not limited in the areas of electronics product, IoT, Embedded Product systems, Design, Computing, etc. which broadly fall under the category of electronics sector. These could be in domains such as MedTech, SMART Cities, Automobiles, CleanTech, Industrial IoT, Consumer IoT, and other relevant technology areas.

» Preference will be given to incorporated startups at the time of admission. Teams can also apply; a selected team would need to form a private limited company to avail funding and other support.

» Applicants are required to be Indian resident nationals at least 18 years of age on 1st of August, 2016.


What are the program benefits?

Financing Support:

» Upfront cash support of 10 lakhs per company. Teams admitted to the program will have incorporate a Pvt. Ltd. to avail funding.

» In addition, an additional 10 lakhs of equity/convertible equity funding will be offered to each team during the program, given satisfactory performance of the team.

» The final distribution pattern of financing support will be decided by the executive council formed by representatives of Intel, SINE, & DST, after review of applications and ongoing monitoring of progress.

Infrastructure & Equipment:

» The companies will get access to Intel India Maker Lab in Bengaluru & SINE facilities in Mumbai.

» Hardware & software development kits, reference boards, design collaterals, test & debugging equipment to be provided free-of-cost to all participants.

» Technical support will be made available for the design, development, testing & certification of the hardware & system products of the startup.

Mentoring & coaching:

» Intensive bootcamp module to kick-start the Program.

» Expert sessions on business & technology development aspects to be conducted throughout the Program.

» Mentoring from senior technologists from Intel India R&D groups having expertise in the relevant platforms, products & solutions.

» Business mentors to be assigned to each team, in addition to in-house support.

» Regular networking events with entrepreneurs and industry experts.


» Facilitation to conduct field trials for real time usage of the products/solutions to get relevant feedback for refinements as needed.


» Facilitation to connect with ecosystem of design houses for software, hardware/board & enclosures, Electronic Manufacturing Service companies, Original Design Manufacturing companies as required.

» Facilitation to manufacture the products and facilitation of scaling the Go to Market efforts for relevant target markets including showcasing the solution in the Maker Showcase and other platforms.


» Opportunities to showcase products in various events, including a demo day for pitching to investors.

What are the obligations of the participants?


» Companies who accept our invitation give up 2% equity to take part in the program, at the start of the Residential Phase, to avail all the benefits outlined above. In addition, any seed capital funding availed from the program (up to 25 lakhs per company) will be in the form of convertible equity that will convert at the time of a Series A or later financing round.


» Applicants have to agree for SINE to collect the team and the startup’s personal information necessary for managing the Program. Selected companies have to send at least one founder to attend the Program and participate in the activities proposed by under the Program in accordance with the schedule. Participants have to provide feedback to SINE at the end of each session/event during the program, and at least once after the program. In addition, the participants have to provide information to SINE about fundraising, jobs created and business development for up to 3 years after the end of the program.

No infringement:

» Participants have to agree not to participate in the Program in any manner that might infringe any third-party proprietary, intellectual property, industrial property or other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or confidentiality obligation.

Where is the Program Located?

Based in two of the hottest startup locations in India,  startups would be provided co-working spaces in Mumbai and Bangalore.

How much equity does Plugin take?

Companies who accept our invitation give up 2% equity to SINE for taking part in the program, to avail all the benefits outlined above (1 year support, 6 month access to office space, 6 lakhs+ grants, technical and business classes, hardware kits, networking events, etc.). In addition, any seed capital funding availed from the program (up to 25 lakhs per company, depending on availability) will be in the form of convertible equity that will convert at the time of a Series A or later financing round.

When does the application process start and end?

I do not have a start-up yet, can I apply?

Yes, provided you have a working prototype with your own intellectual property and can form a company within 2 weeks of being admitted into the program.

My startup is already funded. Can I still apply?

Yes, an already funded startup is also eligible for the program.

What is the process of selection?
  • Startups can apply to the program through our website
  • After submitting the applications, our reviewers and jury members would shortlist the startups. Selected start-ups may be called for an interview and due diligence.
  • Final selection will be notified through e-mails & phone calls
Do you provide accommodation and travel reimbursements for the startup team            during the course of the program?

No. Startups will have to arrange accommodation and travel expenses themselves.

How much access will we get to the mentors?

Plugin will offer each team 2 mentors, one each from business and technical side. These will be people with many years of experience and expertise in their respective fields. The mentors would be available for a definite number of hours per month.

What kind of hardware will be supported for product development?

Technical support will largely be from Intel, and therefore, platforms compatible with Intel® Architecture will be supported. Select hardware kits from Intel for Maker platforms, IoT, wearables, client computing will be provided free. In addition, access to prototyping and testing equipment, such as 3D printer, Basic Machine Toolbench, Oscilloscope, Multimeter, and Spectrum Analyser, will be given.

H K Mittal

Mr. H.K. Mittal is an Adviser and Member Secretary of National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB). He has represented India at various international forums on innovation, entrepreneurship, incubation etc. His two-decade long association with the Government has coincided with the beginning of India's economic liberalization initiatives. Mr. Mittal has been responsible for establishing networks with international development institutions like the World Bank and EU for bringing the global incubation knowledge to the Indian business incubators. He is an alumnus of the National Dairy Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad(1984).

Ashank Desai

Mr. Ashank Desai is the founder and former Chairman of Mastek Limited, a publicly-held IT solutions company with global operations. He is widely recognized as an industry veteran, and is one of the founder members & past Chairman of NASSCOM. He also serves on the Advisory Boards of SJM School of Management, & SINE. He has won several awards such as 2010 Outstanding entrepreneur award winner at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards [APEA]. Mr. Desai is a charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).

Vijay Simha

Graduated from BITS Pilani in 1980 and has spent over 30 years in product development, engineering, manufacturing and market entry strategy in multiple domains of high precision analytical instruments, tribology and measurement systems, semiconductor manufacturing, fermentation technology, bulk drugs manufacturing, factory automation and robotics, aerospace engineering and medical technology. His engagements have been with various businesses from start up to the rejigging of stagnant or failed businesses across the US, Germany, Japan, Russian Federation, Singapore and India. He is an active member of the FICCI Healthservices Committee and the FICCI Advisory Council on Innovation and an active evangelist for the development of a vibrant medical technology ecosystem for India. Currently he is on the Advisory Board/Committees of a number of organizations including the Lemelson Foundation, AIndra, Zilico Ltd., Inovise Medical etc and is involved with Waste Impact, an NGO working on science and technology initiatives for the sustainable management of waste.

Samir Kumar

Mr. Samir Kumar is a Managing Director at Inventus. Samir is an early-stage VC since 2001, following a 15-year operating career in the technology space with companies such as Wipro and Acer. Samir is a Charter Member of Tie Bangalore and a member of its Governing Body. He is also on the Governing Board of SINE - the incubator at IIT Bombay, apart from being on the boards of a number of start-ups. He is an active speaker at various entrepreneurial events. He holds a B.Tech from the IIT Bombay and an MBA from IIM, Bangalore, where he was awarded the Best All-Round Outgoing Student.

Arihant Patni

Mr. Arihant Patni is an entrepreneur, financial advisor and venture capitalist with extensive experience in diverse areas such as IT services/infrastructure, business development/marketing and wealth management. Currently, Arihant is the Managing Director of Patni Financial Advisors, a wealth management company, and Hive Technologies, a platform that invests in data analytics and data science (‘Big Data’) companies. He is also Co-Founder and on the Board of Directors of Nirvana Venture Advisors, a venture capital fund with focus on the internet space. Arihant holds Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Chemical Engineering, MBA from Babson College, and Masters Degree in Statistics from Columbia University.

Nivruti Rai

Nivruti Rai is Vice President in the Platform Engineering Group at Intel Corporation and General Manager – Intel India.
Based in Bengaluru, India, she also leads teams across the United States, Costa Rica, Israel, Malaysia and India for developing innovative analog and mixed-signal intellectual property (IP) blocks and IP subsystems for Intel’s system-on-chip (SoC) products.
She also manages the Emerging Technologies Group in India developing machine learning and computer vision soft IP.
In 2013, her team was awarded an Intel Achievement Award for contributing to the development of the Minute Intel® architecture core.
She also holds a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Oregon State University and a Board of Director Certification from Harvard Business School.

Chetan Maini

Chetan Maini is best known as the founder and advisor of Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Co Ltd. In past Chetan Maini served as Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Technology and Strategy officer and Deputy chairman at Mahindra Reva Electric car Co Ltd.
Chetan Maini completed his master's in Mechanical Engineering from the Stanford university in 1993 after obtaining bachelors in Mechanical engineering (BSME) from theUniversity of Michigan in 1992.
He has also been awarded prestigious honors such as being named as the “Indian Business Icon award” award by CNBC TV 18 in 2011 & the Top gear “Man of the year award” by BBC Top Gear in 2014.

Kumar Prabhas

Kumar Prabhas is a Whole-time Director and the Chief Operating Officer of L&T Technology Services He has obtained a graduate degree in technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has over 19 years of experience in management.

Prabha is a veteran with 23 years of industry experience which spans multiple technologies - satellite communications, wireline modem technologies, mobile handheld systems, automotive and client form factors.

As a product marketing manager for Intel® Quark™ Family of silicon, Amit is responsible for product definitions, roadmap & scaling of Intel Quark silicon portfolio for APAC region.

Anuradha Srinivasan

Anuradha leads Bangalore Design Labs focusing on SoC and system prototyping for Intel Labs. She has about 25 years of industry experience in chipset and SoC development.

R Babu

As part of IoTG (Internet of Things Group), Babu currently handles programs and ecosystem development for Quark Microprocessors. Working closely with the energy vertical, Babu also drives the energy business development using Quark products for utilities, commercial, residential and industrial energy applications including Smart City opportunities

Raghavendra K R Ural

Raghavendra is an evangelist working with the Developer Relations Division at Intel. He has been mentoring startups and developers in IoT. In his IT journey spanning 16 years, he has worked on various technologies including web, enterprise technologies and IoT.

Raj Jaswa

Mr. Jaswa received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and an MBA from Stetson University.
Raj currently teaches Engineering entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay, IIT Gandhinagar, VNIT Nagpur and TiE Silicon Valley. His most recent role was the CEO and Chairman of Dyyno from 2009 to 2012. Dyyno’s user-friendly communication platform seamlessly transports audio, video, text, graphics and voice for live, interactive instant sharing with audiences of unlimited size across multiple devices.

Glenn Vandevoorde

Glenn Vandevoorde is Associate Professor (Practice) at the Division of Engineering and Technology Management at NUS. He is also Head of the Enterprise Development Lab under the Institute of Engineering Leadership, where he teaches experiential programmes on technology to market and market to technology. As an entrepreneur, he was engaged as co-founder and CEO in a number of high-tech start-ups in the UK, Singapore and Taiwan. Prior to joining NUS last year, he was CEO of a social enterprise in Vietnam. His main interest lies in commercialising engineering technologies and applying technology to solve societal problems. Glenn attained an MSc in Micro-Electronics from KU Leuven, Belgium and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth school of Business.

Paula Mariwala

An alumnus of Stanford University, Paula Mariwala is Managing Director of Seedfund, a venture capital firm which invests in start-up companies and Founder President of Stanford Angels & Entrepreneurs India.
Seedfund has invested in over 30 early stage companies across sectors. Her primary focus is on education, healthcare and technology sectors and she works closely with portfolio companies to take them to their next stage of growth.

Suryaprakash Konanuru

Suryaprakash Konanuru (Suri) is a serial entrepreneur and technologist. He is currently the CTO of Ideaspring Capital, a Venture fund focused on early stage deep tech product startups. He is also a mentor and advisor to many startups.
He has been part of the Indian startup ecosystem for over 17 years, as a serial entrepreneur, mentor and advisor. He has co-founded three startups in areas of networking, healthcare and education technologies, after working in Wipro R&D for close to 10 years.
